Breakouts around the mouth are quite common! There are many reasons why they may be recurring...here is the scoop, along with some tips to help keep them at bay.

Why do I get breakouts around my mouth?

According to Chinese Diagnosis, the area around the mouth links to hormones. For women, this often equates to those dreaded "monthly" breakouts, and is rather common. Occassionally, if you have a history of ovarian cycts or other hormonal issues, your body may be telling you it's time for a check up...consult your doctor if you have any questions.

If you can't link your breakouts to any hormonal issues, ask yourself a few questions. Do you tend to rest your chin in your hands during the day? Do you keep your phone clean? Are you using dryer sheets or laundry detergent with fragrance (scent can irritate the skin and cause chin breakouts when your shirt rubs against you!)? Sometimes pinpointing a factor can make all the difference. One of our clients realized her chin breakouts were from here new puppy who liked to rub against her face! :-)

Makeup and poor skin care products can also contribute to these breakouts. Avoid anything with mineral oil, fragrance, SD alcohol, and isopropyl myristate.

So, how do I treat breakouts around my mouth?

Salicylic Acid is a great ingredient for clearing up breakouts. It can penetrate through oil and clean out the pores, making it ideal for oily skin types.

Be sure to wash your face with a pH balanced cleanser (not a soap, which can overly dry skin and cause more breakouts). Never sleep in your makeup!

Go through old makeup and skin care and toss anything that's expired, or contains bad ingredients.
