Under Eye Circles and Puffiness
There is no doubt that skin around the eye area is thinner and more delicate than anywhere else on the body. As a result, it is often the first
place to show signs of aging! Let's look at the most common concerns: wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles.
Fine lines and wrinkles around the eye are mostly caused by the sun (in particular, UVA exposure breaks down collagen and elastin). Consider the fact that we have less oil glands around the eye, and it is no wonder that this area tends to be dry with more wrinkles!
Dermalogica's Total Eye Care SPF 15:
- stimulates hyaluronic acid, which helps to moisturize and eliminate fine lines
- contains Lactic Acid, which smoothes the tissues and helps retexturize dry, flakey skin
- contains Sodium PCA, which attracts moisture
- provides SPF 15 to help prevent future wrinkles caused by the sun (SPF is provided by Titanium Dioxide, which is chemical-free and non-irritating. It protects against UVA and UVB damage.)
Puffiness can be caused by a variety of factors, including water retention, heredity, allergies, smoke, leaving make-up on overnight, etc. Some of these can be controlled, but others need to be treated with a good product. Severe fat pads around the eye can only be removed through cosmetic surgery.
Total Eye Care SPF15:
- contains anti-inflammatory Hydrocotyl Extract, which calms skin and helps eliminate puffiness
- contains Vitamin E, Spiraea, Allantoin and Bisabolol…all of these ingredients are smoothing, calming and conditioning
Dark circles and sun spots can be the result of sun damage, veins/capillaries that are showing through the skin, lack of sleep, etc. Often times, dark circles are hereditary- some people are more prone to the natural dark pigment that can show up in this area. Dry, dull skin can make darkness more apparent.
Total Eye Care SPF 15 addresses these problems with:
- optical light diffusers, which help diminish the appearance of dark circles by reflecting light off of the eye area
- red tint, which helps to cancel out dark spots
- SPF 15, which helps prevent future damage
To use Total Eye Care SPF 15, gently pat around the entire eye area in the morning. Use it under make-up, or by itself!
Other tips for preventing eye problems include:
- getting enough sleep
- cutting out smoking
- taking an antihistamine if you are prone to allergies
- avoid salty snacks at night...they can cause water retention around the eyes
- using a cold eye mask in the morning before applying make-up
- if you wear contact lenses, make sure you are using the brand that is most gentle for your eyes (when your eyes are irritated, the skin around the eyes often shows it, too). Wear glasses on days that you feel excess irritation.
