As we begin to age, our hands can often be the first to show the years of sun damage our body has endured! We pay so much attention to our face, we often overlook areas like the hands.

Throughout the years, hands can show aging with thinning of the skin, obvious veins, wrinkling, and of course, sun spots!

Treating and preventing aging hands

If you are luck enough to still have baby-soft hands, do your best to keep them that way!

When outside, apply SPF to the top of the hands. The sun is the number one enemy...it breaks down collagen and elastin proteins and can make veins more apparent. It is also responsible for those pesky brown spots that tend to show up years after sun damage has occured!

Get the occassional paraffin wax treatment when getting a manicure or facial. The wax is super hydrating, and increases circulation (which can help prevent aging signs). Keeping hands hydrated at all times can help keep wrinkles and dryness away.

Wear gloves when using harsh detergents. That means when scrubbing dishes, cleaning the bathroom, handwashing clothes, etc., you must protect your hands from chemicals! They can break skin down and make hands more susceptible to aging. Gardening gloves are also important when working outdoors...they protect hands from the sun, not to mention the many of other things that hands contact when working in the garden!

Exfoliate. We exfoliate our faces religiously because it's one of the best ways to prevent aging, so why not the hands? You can use the same product you use on your face, or make a home-made version with sea salts and lemon juice. Exfoliants with hydroxy acids and vitamin A will provide much more dramatic results than just scrubs alone. MultiVitamin Thermafoliant is a powerful option that is great for getting rid of photo-aging. Use it on the hands and face! It has lactic acid, retinol, white tea, and lots of antioxidants.

Look into lasers. If hands have prolonged signs of aging, visit a reputable med spa in your area to ask about laser options. Many treatments can help stimulate collagen and dramatically reduce brown spots. Of course, it typically takes a series of treatments, and they can get quite costly.

Use MultiVitamin Hand and Nail Treatment. This is seriously THE hand treatment to keep hands in shape. It has Retinol (a powerful form of vitamin A) to reverse existing signs of aging, and antioxidants to help prevent future problems. Algae extract and panthenol keep hands super-hydrated. It even helps strengthen your nails against splitting and peeling. Daily use makes a HUGE difference in the look and feel of your hands.
